Man Robs Lemonade Stand

Man Robs Lemonade Stand — A young girl whose lemonade stand was robbed of $17.50 chased the suspect into a nearby home and called police, who spent nearly an hour trying to coax the man into surrendering. “The guy came up and was, like, ‘Give me your money,’” said Dominique Morefield, who was running the lemonade stand with a group of friends. “I was shocked. It was just my immediate reaction to chase after him.”

Dominique dashed after the man who ran into a house, and then she called police. Officers eventually persuaded Steve Tryon, 18, to come outside after 45 minutes and arrested him on a preliminary felony charge of robbery.

Tryon was jailed and was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday. The Vigo County prosecutor’s office did not immediately know if he had an attorney.

“I didn’t think anyone would come up to a lemonade stand and steal, that’s really low,” 12-year-old Fred Erstine said.

The kids said they would continue to sell lemonade, but with an adult’s supervision.

Kyle Boller Carrie Prejean: Get Married!

Carrie Prejean may have lost her crown, but she’s getting a husband. The controversial ex-Miss California USA will tie the knot with NFL player Kyle Boller Friday in San Diego, E! News reported Tuesday. Prejean, 23, and Oakland Raiders quarterback Boller, 29, reserved an unspecified number of rooms at the Grand Del Mar Hotel for the weekend wedding, a resort employee told E! Gossip site TMZ first reported news of the nuptials.

Prejean gathered nationwide attention last year after blaming her loss in the Miss USA pageant competition on her opposition to gay marriage.

“We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite,” Prejean told celebrity blogger and pageant judge Perez Hilton during the competition. “And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised.”

Prejean won runner-up in the pageant and became the darling of some in the conservative movement for her comments. While Miss USA owner Donald Trump initially rallied to Prejean’s defense against critics, Trump later stripped Prejean of her Miss California crown, citing breach of contract.

The beauty queen from Vista, Calif., went on to sue pageant officials but later settled amid reports of a sexually explicit video. Prejean and Boller started dating in July 2009, at the height of the pageant controversy, and got engaged in February.

Vera Zvonareva Goes To Wimbledon Final

At each changeover in her Wimbledon semifinal, Vera Zvonareva ducked under her towel, away from the fans at Centre Court, the renewed expectations and the pressure of the moment. As recently as February 2009, Vera Zvonareva held a world ranking of No. 5. But after Thursday’s 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory against Tsvetana Pironkova, after injuries and a freefall down the rankings, Vera Zvonareva is likely to crack the top 10 once again.

“I can say I’m healthy, and finally, I can put up a good work,” she said this week. “I’m looking forward to improve my game and get back to that level where I was before.”

For Vera Zvonareva, actual tennis talent was never an issue. She was part of the wave of young Russians who were supposed to overtake the W.T.A. Tour and never exactly did.

Many, like Vera Zvonareva, succumbed to injury. Players like Dinara Safina and Elena Dementieva, a pair of highly ranked players from Russia, withdrew from this tournament with injury. Zvonareva, who needed minor surgery on her right ankle last November, said that was the common thread.

“You cannot be on top of your game and play the best tennis the whole career,” Zvonareva said. “It happened that all of us were playing very good tennis at the same time and get into the top 10. It’s not easy. It’s very, very hard.”

Vera Zvonareva withdrew from Wimbledon last year with an injury, but returned this year seeded 21st and playing at a level above seeding. She eliminated three top 15 seeds in the past three rounds, knocking of Yanina Wickmayer, Jelena Jankovic, who retired because of injury while trailing in the second set, and Kim Clijsters to reach the semifinals.

Those semifinals last year at Wimbledon featured each of the top four seeds. This year, players like Pironkova made surprise entrances instead.
