Liverpool Street Station Fire


Liverpool Street station was evacuated and closed after the fire started in one of its restaurants shortly after 10.00pm. Eyewitness Nicola McCafferty said: “We were told there was an emergency and all the alarms went off. Everyone ran up the escalator and there was black smoke everywhere and flames coming out of what looked like the Wetherspoons pub or the hotel attached to the station.

Liverpool Street Station Fire, Closed.There were about three fire engines and a police car in the street and hundreds of people milling around.”

A London Fire Brigade spokesman said: “It looks like a kitchen ventilation shaft in one of the restaurant units inside the station is alight. We currently have about 40 firefighters on site. There is no information at this stage about anyone being involved or injured.”

A spokesman for British Transport Police (BTP) said: “BTP are in attendance at Liverpool Street Station, which has been evacuated due to a fire nearby. No trains are leaving or moving into the station.”
